January 28, 2012

Saturdays like this are what Saturdays are for - fun times and relaxation.

We were able to even sleep in a bit this morning as Emma didn't need to be at school til 10 for the dance show.   I love when we can sleep in, get up and start a pot of coffee, and leisurely read the paper as we eat breakfast.  That is the best part about Saturday mornings - the leisure.

The dance show went great today and I think a lot of money was raised for ALS, between the admissions, the raffles, and the concessions.  All proceeds went to local ALS research, so this was completely a non-profit event.  Teams from Catholic schools Benilde-St.Margaret's, Totino-Grace, Academy of Holy Angels, and Cathedral New Ulm were in attendance with their kick and jazz teams.  I worked the doors - which was pretty easy as most people that come to these shows understand that you can't come and go during the dance performances.  Emma's team did great - and it was their last performance of this season.  Now we can just watch the Varsity next weekend at their Section meet and then hopefully on to the State competition mid-February.

Andy had a chance to get out and go ice fishing today on the Chain of Lakes in Richmond (near where I grew up).  His friend Terry's girlfriend has a place on the lake - so they invited him out for fishing on the chain.  He had a good time and caught a couple small walleye but not enough to keep and clean (at least in his book!).  I was hungry for some fresh fish - so hopefully he'll catch some in the next few weekends.

Emma made plans with her dance friends for a sleepover at one of the girl's houses.  So it is just Andy and I here tonight.  We had a wonderful dinner - I grilled two steaks, made a salad, and then made a new recipe for Creamy Cheesy Potatoes.  Those were awesome.  So easy - just potatoes, cream, S&P, and shredded cheese baked in the oven for an hour.  Can't be more easy than that and oh were they good.  Definitely a keeper.

Can you believe January is almost over already? I love it.  No big snowstorms or cold weather in sight either.  I think  I can handle Winter if this is as bad as it gets.

That's all for tonight.  Goodnight.
